Melvin Sokolsky pushed boundaries in his 20’s with the Bubble & Fly collection. He conceptualized the Bubble sphere for Harper’s Bazaar working with Diana Vreeland for the fall fashion in 1963. In 1965, he once again captured the Harper’s Bazaar coveted fall cover and fashion issue with a special corset he created that allowed the model to be suspended in mid air. The negative was misplaced for nearly forty years. Recently found in his archive, Dior Wings represents Melvin’s vision in all its grace and glory, defying every expectation and making the viewer believe that a woman can fly.- the Dior Wings is one the most coveted from that collection.
