In 1961, Marilyn Monroe told 27 year-old photographer Douglas Kirkland to come into bed with her.  The evening he spent with Monroe years ago was sensual, intimate, and spontaneous.  It produced the famous series, “An Evening With Marilyn Monroe.”

American actress, model and singer Marilyn Monroe poses naked in bed for photographer Douglas Kirkland on the evening of November 17th 1961 in Los Angeles. Douglas Kirkland, then aged 24, photographed the icon and sex symbol for his first major assignment for Look magazine, one of the most celebrated photo-shoots ever with the iconic sex symbol.

Douglas Kirkland’s fine arts photography has been exhibited all over the world. His exhibition of Freeze Frame is now in the permanent collection of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills. His work is also in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra Australia, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Eastman House in Rochester and the Houston Center for Photography and the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.
