Over the last 60 years, Douglas Kirkland has photographed 300+ films . From capturing iconic moments on ‘2001 A Space Odyssey’, ‘Sound of Music’, ‘Out of Africa’, ‘Titanic’, ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Australia’, ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ – Kirkland offered an insider look nobody else had access to.
The shots he captured on the set of the ‘Titanic’ film became the first picture book ever to reach No.1 on the New York Times Best Seller list. His second book, capturing Michael Jackson’s during the making of ‘Thriller’ became his 2nd book to hit the list.
Douglas Kirkland’s portraits have been exhibited and are in the collections of contemporary museums around the world.
His works are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra Australia, the National Portrait Gallery in London, MAXXI National Museum of Art in Rome, the Eastman House in Rochester, Houston Center for Photography and the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.
His exhibition of Freeze Frame is now in the permanent collection of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.
