In the late seventies and early eighties, record labels and periodicals other than fashion magazines did not use professional hair-and-makeup people or clothing stylists on shoots. It was rare for them to pay for use of a photo studio or for any assistants…I wanted to help artists have an identity that fit their music…I did it myself or got friends who did that kind of work to help me..

She is a multi-awarded portrait photographer whose work has appeared on and between the covers of Life, Newsweek, Time, Rollingstone, Sports Illustrated, People, Elle, Interview, The New Yorker, etc. Her subjects have varied from entertainment personalities to sports stars, from film directors to authors, from the extra-ordinary to the ordinary man on the street.
